“Tommy, get in here this minute!” his mother shouted.
“I’m trying to mum but I’m having trouble with Bonnie.” Tommy yelled back.
“If she won’t come, leave her and hurry up inside.” His mother commanded.
Tommy loved his puppy and was not prepared to obey this command.
Tommy struggled with the dog in his arms and slowly made his way towards the house being guided by the light shining from the open door. When he only had about a hundred yards to go to reach the safety of the house there was a lull in the storm and an eerie calmness befell the area around the house. He stopped to look at the heavens and saw a beam of light coming from the clouds and getting brighter as it came nearer to the earth. He stood fascinated, watching the light coming towards him, fearful of what was to happen next. He could hear his mother calling him, as if from a long distance and as he turned to look towards his home he could see her reflection in the light of the doorway. He shook his head and started advancing once again towards the back door. As he was walking the light started to fade away until there was no light at all and he was left in total darkness. He called out to his mother and heard a faint reply, and then there was total silence. No sound of the wind or pelting rain, just total eerie silence.
