This story explores the lives of several participants and organisers of a game of Russian Roulette in a seedy urban basement. Exploring the themes of fate and fatalism, "A Sliver of Light" delves into the emotional and physical demons that haunt some people - causing them to become so disenfranchised with life that this is their course of action. These people live on the edge of society - invisible to the majority of people. Stephen Sharp battles his inner demons every day. Whilst Carly Wilson's problems reveal themselves to be a lot more visceral. Judith Scruth is an elderly lady who longs for the love of her deceased husband, whilst Franklin Bletch (tricked into the game) rues a lifetime of sin that has resulted in this reckoning. The organisers of this game are a pair of world weary soldiers of fortune - one a jaded ex-SAS soldier who had recently discovered what it was to love, the other a psychotic torturer who owes his life and his fate to his friend. The story tells the tale of love lost and gained, redemption and reconciliation. There can be only one winner...but in the end of this game, does anybody really ever win?
Okay. Umm, I really need to change the title, but I don't even know what I am writing. Hopefully a noir horror story, but if I get any suggestions I will change it. By the way keep it 12 (PG-13 if you are American) so yeahhhhhhhh. I might have sweating in it, but keep the ideas sensible. Yours Sincerely, Roséline
Adele (Doherty) escaped into exile to Scotland away from the abusive power centres of Rathford (Ireland). The return of a native citizen (incognito) after twenty years presents a fantasia without sympathy at her father’s death. Local policeman, Paul McGroarty, the epitome of corruption and sexual perversion, reminds Adele of the unfinished business that lead to her mother’s tragic disappearance and suicide two decades earlier. Adele plays a final hand of cards from the crooked deck based on the rules learned from her oppressors. Character development at key psychological points in the shifting narrative utilises comedy through a progression of horror, mystery, joy and sorrow against a backdrop of song, small town culture, dialect and the poetry of the tribe. Dramatis Personae ADELE DOHERTY, lethal daughter of the deceased. JOSEPH DOHERTY, deceased King of the Cunts. LAUREN DOHERTY, wife of the deceased, defiled-domestic-doormat mother, punch-bagged slave and skivvy. MARTIN, friend to Adele, Prince of Queens. ANNIE, the town fool, Queen of Crazies. SERGEANT PAUL, Satan Beelzebub, Son of Satan I, Keyser Söze, McGroarty F.H., Hell Cat, Dude of Darkness, Devil of Damnation, Festering Personification of Decomposing Rancidity and Pervert of Pure Petrifaction. ELLEN, exiled friend, daughter of Lesbos, Queen of Mercy. ROBERTA, Ellen’s mother, nurse to Lauren, Queen of Bingo. DOREEN, hotelier, trend setter, hostess aficionado, Queen of the Purple Rinse Brigade Could be a Sunday Matinee written by Quentin Tarantino. Pulp Fiction for a dangerous Irish village: innocent (apparently) of its free legacy of trauma.

Bawalla’s main character is Mick, a plumber who lives in a small coastal Australian town where his wife is a school teacher. Both are eagerly anticipating the birth of their first child. Mick tells of his fears and hopes for the future as the story unfolds. At times, the story flashes back to parts of his childhood, both humorous and tragic, to let the reader know how he came to be the man he is. The main story revolves around the following sequence of events: Mick’s wife Janelle, becomes frustrated before one of her classes after an incident with recently-returned-to-town know-it-all, Ken Perry. She takes it out on one of her students, Jay who happens to be the son of Mike’s best mate and employee, Dave. Ego bruised, Jay and his mates play a seemingly harmless trick on their teacher a few nights later by drunkenly prank calling her to announce that her husband has been involved in an accident. Janelle, who earlier in the night had a phone conversation regarding drink-driving with her husband whilst celebrating his brother’s birthday, rushes to make it to the hospital and in doing so, has an accident which causes her to miscarriage. The story then focuses on Mike and his ability to control his urge for some sort of revenge versus forgiving his best-mates son, amid strained relationships between all parties.
