The history of gaming is an interesting topic. In my opinion, the evolution of the controller is a subtopic that is far too often overlooked. The jump from the joystick to VR and motion capture has led many people to believe that the controller is as evolved as it will ever be. Well, they are wrong. An eccentric scientist forged a controller the likes of which the world has yet to see. Little did he know that a chance meeting with a young gamer would not only forever change their lives but would change the course of history itself.

“Tommy, get in here this minute!” his mother shouted. “I’m trying to mum but I’m having trouble with Bonnie.” Tommy yelled back. “If she won’t come, leave her and hurry up inside.” His mother commanded.  Tommy loved his puppy and was not prepared to obey this command. Tommy struggled with the dog in his arms and slowly made his way towards the house being guided by the light shining from the open door. When he  only had about a hundred yards to go to reach the safety of the  house there was a lull in the storm and an eerie calmness befell the area around the house. He stopped to look at the heavens and saw a beam of light coming from the clouds and getting brighter as it came nearer to the earth. He stood fascinated, watching the light coming towards him, fearful of what was to happen next. He could hear his mother calling him, as if from a long distance and as he turned to look towards his home he could see her reflection in the light of the doorway. He shook his head and started advancing once again towards the back door. As he was walking the light started to fade away until there was no light at all and he was left in total darkness. He called out to his mother and heard a faint reply, and then there was total silence. No sound of the wind or pelting rain, just total eerie silence.

At the Long Horizon
1 part / 277 pages
,
updated Oct 31, 2016

Looking forward to unboxing the latest title, Jonathan unknowingly is selected to be among thousands of others to be thrown into a vast universe. Teeming with the unkown and yet dangerously familiar he encounters vistas and sites that are alien but at the same time crafted by man. This is the Far Horizon, where games and worlds collide in a million different places. People taken from different times and even different worlds mingle here, a giant melting pot of cultures irrespective of ideology or beliefs. In his journeys he finds individuals much like him who share his enthusiasm for adventure and yet they bear a yearning for home. From a teeming hostile metropolis, a verdant jungle world and barren icy wasteland, Jonathan discovers sites he thought impossible but exist in this strange place. Beasts, monsters and machines all live in an impossible time as well as the people around him. Such is the nature of the Far Horizon that even death and basic human needs have been tamed. Jonathan meets new friends, new people and new groups. They tell him of one individual who is spoken of as the first to bear witness to this place. Many search for him, but just as many dread to find him. As he continues to make connections and learn more of this uncertain place he is drawn into a vicious plot that could very well trap him for all eternity and prevent him from ever seeing the light of day ever again. It will take all his tenacity and wit to escape his assailants and perhaps change the face of this place forever.

Eternity
1 part / 151 pages
,
updated Nov 06, 2016

At inception, this was supposed to be a classic Science Fiction novel. Now that I am several lightyears into it, I realize that this is turning into the tale of a hopelessly unsuitable love and a tribute to human passion instead. I theorize about a very distant, almost incomprehensible future, but always based on existing and solid research; there is no Fiction blended into the Science I cite and wherever appropriate I substantiate this claim with footnotes pointing at the prevalent state of the art and associated publications. Don’t be disappointed if I refuse to employ death rays or warp drives. No Physical Laws were harmed in the making of this novel! I toy with a multitude of cultural, religious and sociologic presumptions; pointing at their absurdity by elucidating them against the backdrop of a fictional world that discarded traditional terrestrial values; I also aim to contribute to two technologic debates:1. The feasibility of interstellar travel.2. Artificial Intelligence: Propitious potential versus latent risks. Some last minute disclaimers: If you blush easily, take offense at authentic language or if you are a staunch Creationist – don’t read any further! You most likely won’t enjoy what I have to say. And – as long as you are not ready to answer some rather specific questions around procreation – don’t pass this book on to your prepubescent kids; no matter how interested they are in space travel. Consider yourself warned!
